Vincent J Porpora

Vincent (Vinny) Porpora, age 96 years, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at United Hebrew of New Rochelle. Vinny was born on September 3, 1927, in the Bronx to Antonio and Madalena Porpora, the third of six children. He served in the US Army and was an active member at the Mt Carmel Church and the Knights of Columbus in Mt Vernon, NY. Vinny will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and green thumb. He was a skilled gardener and was able to grow everything from tomatoes to pumpkins to watermelon in his backyard garden. He is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years, Carolyn (Sweeting) Porpora and four sons, Anthony (Barbara) Porpora of Fairport, NY; Richard (Nancy) Porpora of Queensbury, NY; Vincent (Winifred) Porpora of Ossining, NY; and Joseph (Margaret) Porpora of Westminster, MA. Known as Pop-Pop, he was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Anthony and Joseph Porpora, sister-in-law, Joan (Andrew) Polizzi and brother-in-law, Martin Riccio. He is preceded in death by sisters, Rae, Mary, brother, Carmine and his wife, Frances.
Visitation will be at Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home in Mt Vernon, NY on Tuesday, December 26 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on
Wednesday, December 27 at 10:30 AM at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Mt Vernon with internment immediately following at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
