She later married Theodore Canigan which produced a daughter Rhoma from that union, in 1952. In 1955 she migrated to England leaving her daughter in the care of her mother-in-law to be with her husband who had gone there a year prior. While in England she pursued a course in cosmetology, she also worked as an orderly. She remained in England for a period of 10 years before moving back to Jamaica. In 1968 she again migrated to the United States of America where she lived and worked as a nursing attendant until her retirement. Cissy as she preferred to be called by all her grandchildren loved getting dressed up, and would get very excited when her clothes were designer made. Cooking was her passion. She would even offer to cook for perfect strangers she met at the bank. She spent many hours cooking for perfect strangers. Arranging bus trips was her way of fundraising for the church. Her fritters and fried fish were out of this world. Thelma passed from this life on April 8th, 2021 she is survived by her daughter Rhoma, grandchildren Ianthe, Thessolon, and Stephannie.
