Tandrea Lockhart Obituary

Tandrea Carlotta Lockhart was a remarkable mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her radiant smile had the power to brighten any room, and her infectious laugh brought joy to those around her. Though she is no longer with us, we honor her legacy of compassion, kindness, and undeniable strength. Affectionately known as “Tanny” by her loved ones, she was born on August 19, 1957, in Queens, New York, to her parents, Henry Carl Lockhart and Gloria Teresa Nortez. She was the youngest of three siblings: her brother, Terence Carl Lockhart (Terry); and her sister, Terencia Carla Lockhart-Chartain (Prissy).

Tandrea graduated from Morningside High School in Inglewood, California, in 1975. As a young woman, she had a passion for fashion and design merchandising, among other interests. One of her most rewarding experiences was serving as an International Flight Attendant for Flying Tigers Line, where she transported many of our nation’s servicemen during Operation Desert Storm.

In 1991, she moved to New York City to pursue a degree in graphic design at Hunter College. Through her dedication, she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1997. Her passion for children led her to return to college to pursue a Master’s in Education, which she completed at Mercy College in 2004. Tandrea was a devoted advocate for education, pouring her heart into her students as if they were her own. For 20 years, she worked as a Special Education teacher for the Greenburgh North Castle Union Free School District (Kenneth B. Clark Academy).

Among all her achievements, the one that brought her the greatest pride was being mom to Yerusalem and Yashua. Welcoming a beautiful baby girl on December 13,1992 was her most significant accomplishment- a mini version of herself. A few years later on August 19, 1997, she celebrated the arrival of her birthday twin, a spirited baby boy; who became the best birthday gift that kept on giving. Those who knew her could see the immense pride her children brought her.

Tandrea departed this life on September 14, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones, leaving behind a legacy to be proud of. She is preceded in death by her mother, Gloria; her father, Henry; and her older brother, Terence. Tandrea’s legacy lives on through her sister, Terencia; her beloved children, Yerusalem and Yashua; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
