Ruth Hamilton Roland was born on April 4, 1928 in the Bronx, New York to Esther and Raymond Hamilton. The family later moved to New Rochelle where she graduated from Albert Leonard High School. She continued her education at Plattsburgh State University.
Ruth worked at the Sanborn Map Company in Pelham where she met her future husband John “Jackie” Roland. They were married on August 13, 1955 and shared 53 wonderful years together until John’s passing.
A dedicated and caring presence, Ruth worked and volunteered for many years at Lincoln Elementary School. She was a well-known and enduring figure in the Mount Vernon community.
Ruth is survived by her loving children; John (Donna); Walter (Colleen); Paul (Jeanine) and Jo-Ann (Chris); eleven cherished grandchildren, eight beautiful great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was the last surviving member of her generation of Hamiltons and Rolands - a proud part of the “Greatest Generation”.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband John; her daughter, Jo-Ann Ruth; her grandson, Danny Roland; and her brother and sister Walter Hamilton and Frances Wall.
Throughout her life Ruth found joy in reading, shopping, playing games, dining out and watching her grandchildren play sports.
Ruth spent her later years at Tappan Zee Manor where she enjoyed arts and crafts, dominoes and BINGO. Her family is deeply grateful to the warm and devoted staff who cared for her with such kindness and compassion.
