Rose Colavito, a New Rochelle resident since 1960, died Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital. She was 96. Rose was born in December 1927 in Mt. Vernon, New York, the daughter of Anthony and Cristina Castaldo, and attended Mt. Vernon schools. On December 19, 1948, she married Paul Colavito, also of Mt. Vernon, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Vernon.
In the late 1940s, Rose worked as an office assistant for 20th Century Fox Studios in Manhattan, and later worked for many years at Bloomingdale’s in New Rochelle. Rose was an avid New York Yankees fan, attending many games at Yankee Stadium as well as cheering them on at home. Rose had an immense love of animals, especially the two cats she adored, Skippy and Neffie.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Christina Colavito of New Rochelle, as well as many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Angelo Castaldo and Louis Castaldo and four sisters, Frances Coschigano, Annette Tanzella, Louise Castaldo and Carmella Calabro died earlier.
