Robert Valentinetti Obituary

Robert Charles Valentinetti, age 63, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024, while his loving daughter, Jamie, and other family members kept close watch over him at home. The sixth of 10 children, he was born to Vito and Anna Mary (“Ann” McCluskey) Valentinetti on November 14, 1960, in the Bronx. He was predeceased by a younger brother, Daniel, and his parents.

He grew up in the Bronx and Mount Vernon, New York, attending parochial schools and then Mount Vernon High School. Robert held various occupations during his life, his last employment with A&P Supermarkets until they closed their stores. Shortly afterwards, health issues caused him to become unable to work; and he returned to his family home in Mount Vernon.

While his interests were varied, his favorites were classic western shows and movies, the New York Yankees, and coin collecting. Robert was also always fascinated by and had a special love for everything to do with nature. He loved the wonders of nature, especially animals; and they often returned the love. Stories of his youth include times when Robert would be seen holding court on the sidewalks of the Bronx while several stray dogs surrounded him as if he could commune with them. As an adult, he never missed an opportunity to provide handfuls of peanuts for his backyard friends, the birds and squirrels.

He was especially fond of children. The sight, the sound, the mere thought of a child made him smile—whether the child of a friend, one known in the neighborhood to him, or each of the dozens of his nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews he had come to take pride in and love over the years. His tenderness with them and his awe for all creatures point to Robert as having been a man with a loving heart.

Robert is survived by his devoted daughter Jamie Lee Valentinetti, his stepmother Mary Ann, and his siblings Vito (Tina), Marie (Lou) Corradino, Anne (Bob) Sottile, Mark, Karen (Lou) Piloco, Joseph (Claudia), Rosanne (Nick) DeFino, Joan (John) Lauria, and his stepbrother, Andrew Lombardo. As mentioned, he is survived, too, by many loving nieces and nephews.

While he held all family dear, no one was as dear to him and loved by him as his daughter Jamie Lee. She was his life and reason for being. He was supportive of her, proud of her accomplishments, and kept close watch over her, going so far as to track her whereabouts on his phone—often multiple times each day! During his long illness, it became clear that Jamie was his very “best medicine” as he became renewed and energized every time she was with him because of the love and attention she gave him.

While Robert was comforted by the love and care from his family, he was also comforted by the spiritual care provided by Calvary Home Hospice including having the opportunity to receive the sacraments of Anointing of the Sick and Holy Communion during the week before he passed on to his eternal reward.
