Raffaela Cicchetti of Mt. Vernon passed away on August 4, 2021. She was born in Vallata, Italy on September 9, 1935 to Nicola and Assunta (nee Marino) Cannone. Mama Rae as she was affectionately known throughout Mt. Vernon emigrated to the United States in 1958 with her late husband Salvatore. Upon arriving in America, she worked at various assembling factories, then after having children she began her career working in the Mt Vernon Public Schools for over 35 years. Mama Rae started as a cafeteria monitor at A.B. Davis Middle School, then was a hall monitor there after which she became a NYS certified security guard and worked until her retirement as a guard at Lincoln Elementary School. Even though Mt Vernon is only 4 square miles, there is not a square inch that she didn’t walk through. Raffaela is predeceased by her beloved and caring husband Salvatore in 2010; her brothers Mike and Gaetano Cannone, a sister Nina Bove and her dear (step)Mother Maria. Loving mother of Anthony (Diane), Nicholas (Toni) and Guido (Betsy); cherished Nonna of Rachael (Lawrence), Anthony, Sarah, Raffaela, Gianna and Sofia, and great grandmother of Matteo; dear sister of Mario Cannone, Guido (Virginia) Cannone and Amedeo Cannone, Susie and her husband Angelo DiLeo. Also survived by her sisters-in-law Bernice Cannone and Lina Cannone. Adoring aunt of many nieces and nephews. Nonna truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, taking them on adventures throughout Mt. Vernon and Yonkers. Her love of making weekly homemade pasta, bread and pizza were highlights of our childhood. Nonna’s true passion was knitting and crocheting, she would make family, friends and stranger’s countless scarves and blankets. Family will honor Raffaela’s life from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday August 5, 2021 at Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:45am on Friday August 6, 2021 at Sts. Peter & Paul ~ St. Ursula Church, Fleetwood. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
