With profound love and sorrow, we announce that Ponce DeLeon Hatch, Sr. transitioned from his life to eternal peace on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026, at Montefiore Mt. Vernon Hospital in Mount Vernon, New York, surrounded by his family and friends.
Born on January 20, 1936, in Kinston, North Carolina, Ponce received his formal education in the Lenoir County Schools in Kinston. He later continued his education at Fordham University and earned a Master of Science in Transportation Management from Polytechnic University.
Ponce proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Military Police officer. His service reflected the discipline, strength, and commitment that would guide his life.
Following his military service, Ponce built a distinguished career with MABSTOA, where he worked for over 30 years. Through dedication and leadership, he rose to the position of Assistant Deputy of Revenue. He was respected by colleagues and known for his strong work ethic and integrity.
Ponce was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Amancia, and a loving father of eight children: Ponce D. Hatch, Sr. (Joyce) of Portsmouth, VA; Lisabette A. Hatch-Ware (Jerome, Sr.) of New Rochelle, NY; Edgar D. Hatch (Anna) of Croton Falls, NY; Alan Hatch of Mount Vernon, NY; Darryl Hatch, Sr. (Jerris) of Atlanta, GA; Charlene Burke of Staten Island, NY; Ian V. Hatch of Fishkill, NY; and the late Deborah Reed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel Hatch and Mary Hatch Kornegay.
Ponce believed deeply in service to others. He was actively involved in community service through AARP Tax Services, the PTA, the NAACP, and the Boy Scouts. His commitment to uplifting others left a lasting impact on many lives.
A faithful and dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church, Ponce served in many roles including Deacon, Usher, Church School Teacher, and member of the Male Choir. His faith remained a cornerstone of his life.
In his leisure time, Ponce enjoyed traveling, fishing, and bowling—activities that brought him joy and created lasting memories with family and friends.
Along with his loving wife and children, he leaves to cherish his memory a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
