Patricia E. Sweeney passed peacefully on Thursday February 22, 2024, at the age of 72, after a short but hard fought battle with cancer of the gallbladder. Patricia was a resident of Mount Vernon for close to 30 years. Born on September 18, 1951 in Antigua to Denzil Hill and Maudlyn (nee Mason) Hill, she was the second of three children. She came to the United States in the late sixties, settling first in the Bronx. She was married from 1974 -1984 to Arnold Sweeney and they had their only son, Tarik. Patricia had her second child, her daughter Erin in 1990. She began her career working for American Express before taking a job at LaGuardia Airport for Continental Airlines until her retirement in 2006. Her time there brought her into contact with many famous faces who often commented on her fantastic sense of style. Outside of her day job, Pat was a talented seamstress. She often told stories of how as a young, working mother she would come home each night and take apart her outfit of the day to reconstruct it into something new. Her daughter Erin recalls that her favorite costume was the purple, satin princess dress that her mom made her from scratch! Pat’s love of fashion and interior design was apparent to anyone who knew her. She had impeccable taste, an eye for detail, and a flair for accessorizing. If you were friends with Pat, you didn’t have to go shopping for any special occasion- just take a trip to her closet! Patrica is survived by her brother Basil Hill; son Tarik Sweeney, her daughter Erin (nee Finch) Fidaleo, and her son-in-law Mauro Fidaleo; her ex-husband Arnold Sweeney, with whom she remained close friends until her passing; her grandchildren Jaida, Amiah, and Kashad Sweeney and Gabriel Fidaleo. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly! Patricia was preceded in death by her father Denzil, her mother Maudlyn, and her sister Heather. A vibrant social butterfly, Pat will be sorely missed by her many friends with whom she enjoyed taking day trips and attending bible study with, as a devout Christian. She will be remembered as a fashionista, a fierce friend, a talented cook, and a loving mother and grandmother to those she leaves behind. Though she leaves a hole is so many lives, she’s gone home to a well earned rest.
