Mary T. McNicholas (Bergman) lived and loved everyone she met for 99 years. She was
the loving wife of the late Walter McNicholas and loving mother to Walter, Kenneth,
Theresa and Noreen McNicholas and mother-in-law to the late John Mastromarino
(Noreen’s husband). Her son, Kevin, predeceased her. She loved her parents, the late
Charles and Nora Bergman. Mary was a devoted sister to the late Charles (Sonny)
Bergman, Margaret (Peggy) Walsh and Rita Mahlmeister. She was a loving sister-in-law
to the late Jack Walsh, Charles Mahlmeister, John and Jean McNicholas, Thomas
McNicholas, Martin (Marty) and Pat McNicholas and Robert (Bob) Moran. She is
survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Moran. She was a wonderful aunt to a slew of nieces
and nephews who called her often to check in on her in the last few years.
Everyone loved Mary. She had a special sense; when she knew someone needed help,
support, or a hug, she was always there to brighten up their day. She shared many
words of wisdom with the people she loved.
She volunteered at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville for more than 20 years. She was an
avid crocheter. Many babies always had one of Mary’s hats on their heads or booties on
their feet. She made the best Irish soda bread.
She was a very devoted Catholic, going to Mass daily until she could no longer walk or
take the bus to Church – then she watched it on TV daily. Her family was her life, and
she meticulously cared for her husband and her children. In her last few years, her
daughter, Theresa, did precisely what Mom always did—she took care of Mom.
In lieu of flowers, Mom would prefer donations to be made to the charity of your choice.
