Mary Elizabeth Anderson

Mary Elizabeth Anderson passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 26,2022 at Sunrise Senior Community of Crestwood.  She is the daughter of the late Ada (Vazzana) and Thomas V. Farewell.  She was predeceased by her loving husband George Anderson, her adored son John Anderson, her brothers Thomas and Robert Farewell.  She is survived by her children Paul Anderson (Nicole), Patricia Nugent (Michael), Judith Fulco (Bruce), and her daughter in law Joan Anderson.  Mary was the loving grandmother to 12 grandchildren Ellen Cosier (Perry), Elizabeth Nugent (Nick), Colleen Mann (Andrew), Claire Aven (DJ) Thomas Anderson (Angie), Jennifer Vullo (Corey), Nicholas Anderson, Patrick Nugent, Daniel Anderson, Victoria Anderson, Rachel Anderson and Matthew Anderson and 8 great grandchildren, Liam, Cecilia, Maggie, Miles, Elise, Juliette, Maisey and Evelina. Mary grew up in Mount Vernon, NY and graduated from Longfellow Elementary School, Washington Junior High School and A.B. Davis High School.   She went on to graduate from Katherine Gibbs School in New York, N.Y.  She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, N.Y.  Mary received a Masters of Science from Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y.  She began her teaching career in 1964 as a second grade teacher at St. Augustine School in New City, N.Y.  She then taught fourth grade for 40 years at Lincoln Elementary School in Mount Vernon, N.Y. She was a lifelong learner and a dynamic educator.  Teaching was the passion of her life. Mary was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in Mount Vernon and upon its closing, Immaculate Conception Church in Eastchester, N.Y.  Anyone who met her knew how important her faith was to her. Visitation will be at Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home at 584 Gramatan Avenue in Mount Vernon, N.Y. on August 7, 2022.  A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Eastchester, N.Y.  on August 8, 2022.  A private interment will follow the mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations to Lincoln Elementary School PTA at 170 E. Lincoln Avenue, Mount Vernon, N.Y.  in honor of Mary E. Anderson.
