Marjorie T. Johnston (nee Fay) of Mt. Vernon, died peacefully on April 19, 2023. She was born May 7, 1931 to the late John and Mary Fay. She was orphaned at 5 years old, and spent seven years in orphanages and foster care until she was taken in at age 12 by “Grandma Larkin.” It was then that she met the love of her life, Robert W. Johnston. They married in June 1951 and lived in Los Angeles for a short time. Returning to New York, they settled in Mt. Vernon and started their family. Marjorie returned to the work force when her youngest daughter entered kindergarten. She worked at Sears Roebuck in Mt. Vernon where she made lifelong friendships. Robert predeceased her by 3 years and 3 months. Marjorie is survived by her daughters Debra and Karen (Stephen Dillulio) of Mt Vernon, Kathy (Tom McKee) of Huntington, NY, and niece Cindy (Kevin Coyne) of Greenwich, CT. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas (Janice Ringler) and Julian DeGouveia, and Julia and Ryan McKee, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Marjorie was blessed to live long enough to meet her great grandson, Lincoln. She was a long-time parishioner of Sts Peter & Paul and St Ursula Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
