Margaret C. (Melinsky) Whiting, a lifelong resident of Mt. Vernon, NY, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, at the age of 95. Born in August,1929, Margaret succumbed to pneumonia following a bout with the flu.
Margaret graduated from AB Davis High School. Margaret started her career as a bank teller and advanced to branch manager at Eastchester Savings Bank, where her friendly demeanor and spirited leadership earned her the respect and affection of her colleagues and clients alike. She was proud of her ability to add and subtract numbers in her head and always balanced her day's deposits.
Beyond her professional achievements, Margaret's life was filled with the Lutheran Church, her proud lifetime membership of the Order of the Eastern Star and with the joys of family and friends. She married the love of her life Walter F. Whiting, April 17, 1955. Walter predeceased her on April 16, 2005. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Carolyn) and James (Italia). Margaret's son Thomas recently predeceased her, and she is survived by her daughter-in-law Mona. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Annemarie Folken (Ryan), Matt, Tommy, and Chris Whiting, and her great-grandchildren, Carter and Amelia Folken, who added immense joy to her life. Margaret's brother Edward Melinsky predeceased her, and she is survived by her sister-in-law Patricia, her niece Judy Franco, several great nieces and great nephews, and her cousin David Stolte (Trudy). She is predeceased by her nephew Donald Melinsky (Jennifer).
Margaret's family was the cornerstone of her existence, and the love she shared with them was evident to all who knew her. Margaret's home in Mt. Vernon was the heart of holiday celebrations, echoing with laughter and the aroma of her homemade meals. Her summer home on Cape Cod was a haven of relaxation and family gatherings. She and her husband Walter loved to travel with family and friends, often on cruises, where she made lasting memories.
Those who knew Margaret will remember her as loving, friendly, and spirited. She was known to family and a few close friends as "Margie Babes" and she frequently referred to herself as a "tough old bird!"
