Kathleen Whalen passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024, at 88. She was born to James and Elizabeth O’Shea on February 22, 1936, in the Bronx, New York. Always smiling, Kathleen had a deep love for her family, New York City, the theater, a good conversation, a sweet dessert, and sports. She was a lifelong fan of the Yankees, the Giants, and Notre Dame Football. Kathleen was proud to dedicate more than two decades to volunteering at St. Patrick's Nursing Home, where she gave comfort and companionship to many. Her community service was a true reflection of her faith-filled life. She is survived by her son, Brian Whalen, and daughter-in-law, Marci. She was affectionately known as Grammy to her grandsons, Cooper and Dylan, whom she called “the joy of my life.” Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cornelius (Neil). She was also the last surviving sibling of her generation, having been predeceased by her twin sister, Elizabeth Duffy and brother-in-law, Thomas Duffy Sr.; their children Anne Marie, Eileen, and Tommy, brother, John T. O'Shea Sr. and sister-in-law Jean O’Shea (Branigan); their children Michael and Johnny, and brother, James (Buddy) P. O'Shea. She was also a loving sister-in-law to Mary (Mazie) Sullivan, John Whalen, and Nora Petrocchi. Kathleen will be greatly missed by many loving nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Kathleen’s honor.
