Joseph D. Hunce joined the Mt. Vernon P.D. in 1977 and his career lasted forty years. Joe retired in 2017. He worked in many aspects of police work including Patrol, Violent Street Crime, Narcotics and the Detective Division. Joe retired with the rank of Lieutenant. He received many awards throughout his career. Joe will be remembered as a consummate professional. He was always training newly hired officers. He taught them how to work effectively and compassionately in the community. Joe will be remembered as a ‘Cops Cop’. He leaves behind his wife Rosalina, stepson Michael, his mother Marie, brothers Peter and Raymond and nephews Raymond and Peter. When Joe retired, he purchased his dream home in upstate New York where he enjoyed nature and fishing.
