João Batista Gonçalves

João (John) Batista Gonçalves was born in Cabril, Portugal on June 10, 1932 and was the son of Antonio and Lucinda Goncalves.   João and his wife Aurora Goncalves were married on August 5, 1961.  In the early 1960's Aurora and Joao emigrated to Brazil where their son Antonio was born in 1963.  In 1970 João and his family emigrated to the United States and settled in Mt. Vernon, NY where João worked in the construction industry. João passed away on Friday, May 27 at the age of 89.  João is survived by his loving son Antonio (wife Darlene), grandchildren John Anthony and Alec James (AJ), and his siblings;  Domingos, Maria and Deolinda.  João is predeceased by his wife of 57 years Aurora. João was so caring, kind and so full of love for his immediate and extended family.  João’s life revolved around his family and he loved being around children.  João will be sorely missed by his son, family and friends, all who love and adore him beyond what words can convey.  We love you dearly and will never forget you. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in João's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital
