John "Jack" White Obituary

John "Jack" White, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on January 12, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on January 17, 1933, in the Bronx to Henry and Loretta White. He had 3 siblings; Harry, Donald, and Loretta. They grew up in Woodlawn, a place that shaped many of his fondest memories.

Jack attended St. Barnabas Grammar School and Mount Saint Michael High School. He spent his youth running through the fields of Woodlawn, playing sports alongside his friends and brothers—memories he carried with him throughout his life.

In 1957, Jack married the love of his life, Barbara, at St. Barnabas Church. Their marriage, a beautiful testament to love, devotion, and partnership, spanned nearly 69 years-just one month shy of that remarkable milestone.

A devoted Catholic, Jack's faith was central to who he was. He loved the Catholic Church deeply, prayed every morning and every night, and always kept his prayer books close, finding strength, comfort, and purpose through his faith.

Together, Jack and Barbara raised four children: three daughters, Theresa (Anthony), Susan (Joseph), and Mary Ellen (Stephen), and one son, John (Gina), who predeceased him in 2021 and was never far from his heart. Jack was a proud and loving grandfather to Nicole (Sam), Jaclyn (Thomas), Kevin, Gregory (Kailey), James (Stephanie), Emily (Tyler), and Gabrielle, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Teddy, Rory, Harry, Benjamin, Cameron, and Brody.

Jack dedicated nearly 50 years of service to the Metro-North Railroad. Known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and kindness, he was deeply respected by his colleagues and peers and left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working with him.

Jack was an avid card player who loved games like Casino, Cribbage, and Hearts. His favorite pastime was giving the Queen to his daughters—a small gesture that perfectly reflected his warmth and sense of humor.

Above all else, Jack loved his family more than anything. His life was defined by faith, hard work, loyalty, and love, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A funeral Mass for Jack will be held on Wednesday, January 21st, at 10:30 am at St. Barnabas Church 409 E. 241st St. Bronx, NY 10470.
