John J. Roque, a lifelong resident of Mt Vernon, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, at the age of 94. He was born in Mt Vernon on September 30, 1929. A devoted family man, John leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, exemplified by his 60-year marriage to his late wife, Rita (nee Pucillo) and his loving children, John (Nicole) and Michele (Kamel), and his grandchildren John, Samuel, Luke, Mark, Carmella, Jasmine, and Maleia, who will carry forward his memory with fondness. John is predeceased by 8 siblings.
He proudly served his country as a Military Police officer in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he demonstrated his strong work ethic as a metal worker, laborer, and eventually retired from the US Post Office where he was a dedicated letter carrier. His commitment to community shone through his coaching in the Babe Ruth Baseball League, where he led his teams to two championships.
John was an avid sports fan with a particular fondness for the home team. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, Giants, Knicks and New Rochelle Robins. John's passion for sports was only matched by his love for America.
