Inacio F. Mendes

Inacio Mendes of Mount Vernon, New York passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026 at the age of 92. Born in 1933 in Querença, Algarve, Portugal, he was a devoted husband to Evelina Coelho Mendes, father to Heliodoro Mendes (Mary Sebastiao) and Feliciano Mendes (Wendy Mendes), grandfather to Alyssa Mendes (Rafael Pearl), Alex Madeira, and Naomi Mendes, and great-grandfather to his newborn great-grandson. 

In Portugal, Inacio proudly served as a police officer for seven years, working in both Faro and Lisbon. After immigrating to the United States, he spent 33 years in construction across New York City, committing himself to his trade and supporting his family with strength and determination. He was also a devoted member of the Portuguese Club of Mount Vernon, where he treasured time with other community members and especially enjoyed playing cards. 

Inacio will be remembered for his vibrant personality, thoughtfulness, and deep love for family and friends. He will be missed by all who loved him.

9:00am Visitation at Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, New York. 

10:30am Funeral Mass at Saint Peter and Paul Church in Mount Vernon, New York, with burial to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York
