Grace Ann Johns Obituary

Grace Ann (Carideo) Johns 78, surrounded by her children, passed away after a long courageous battle with Breast Cancer on November 26, 2019.  She was a fighter up until the very end. Born on October 5, 1941 to Anthony and Connie (Morra) Carideo Grace Ann was a resident for over 60 years in Mt. Vernon and later moving up to Lake Carmel NY, Although she always considered Mt. Vernon to be her home.  Raised in Mount Vernon she  attended Mount Vernon Schools , being a majorette at Edison High School and later becoming at member of the Civil Air Patrol.  She also earned her cosmetology /hair license and loved to do her family and friends hair.

She was a loving mother to Richard Johns Jr.(Donna) Ronald, Raymond and JodiLynn (Vinny).  She was a loving grandmother to Darren, Ryan (Jenny) Marisa, Tara and Vincent III.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law John Economico Niece Jennifer Ann(Rob) and great niece Gianna Marie.  Predeceased by her parents, brother Carmine and sister Janet and life long partner Manfred Hohendorf and Life long friend and Co- Parent Richard Johns Sr.
Grace worked in Mt Vernon School District as a Security guard, as well as in City Hall in the Building Dept. up  until her retirement.   She was an avid lover of Elvis Presley and had a huge collection of him, always dancing and to his tunes and singing them out loud.   She also had a great fondness of elephants, always telling people they were smart and brought good luck.  The Mets and Jets and Brooklyn Dodgers were her favorite teams and you would always find her routing for them even though her family loved the Yankees.
Throughout her life, Grace traveled all over the world to different countries and states some being Egypt and Germany, California, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Florida to name a few.  By far her favorite trip was  to Graceland.  In her spare  time, Grace loved to watch her channel 2 Soaps Guiding Light , Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful and writing in her journal and doing her wonder word puzzles.  She  loved spending time with he children and grandchildren  Whether it was driving her kids to their games and cheering them on foot ball/ base ball or as well as her grandchildren's sporting events or dance recitals or plays.  She never hesitated to help out when someone needed her.  Her children and Grandchildren daughter-in law and son- in -law  were the light of her life and close with her only niece and will be missed dearly by all of them.
Grace Ann's family would like to thank those who helped her until the very end.  Thank you to the Calvary Hospice, Hospice care of Westchester and Putnam, Calvary Hospital and a big heart felt thank you to Rosary Hill for their caring, compassion, understanding and never ending love  for our mom and us in her final days.
