Giaconda Pizzonia passed away on July 21, 2025, after a brief illness, in Bronxville, NY, surrounded by the warmth of her family. Born on March 16, 1929, in the town of Montoroso in Calabria, Italy, Giaconda embarked on a journey that would span 96 remarkable years. Giaconda's life story is one of resilience and passion, traits perhaps best personified by her move from the small-town Montoroso to Brooklyn alongside her husband, Antonio, and her daughter, Maria, in 1956. Giaconda and her family later relocated from Brooklyn to Yonkers in 1976. Her skilled hands and keen eye for detail earned her the title of "La Maestra", a moniker she held with honor and a testament to her passion of teaching the craft she dutifully honed for 25 years as a devoted member of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union. Her Christian faith was her cornerstone during her long life, serving as a beacon in times of hardship and joy alike. She was a devouted follower of St. Padre Pio, and those who knew Giaconda were captivated by her radiant grace. Her spirit could only be described as a bright flame that danced to the rhythms of her Italian heritage. Giaconda's energy and vibrance especially manifested itself in her kitchen and in her garden, where she found solace, joy, and fond memories. Her cooking was equal parts hobby and love language, as she joyfully shared the flavors of her homeland and the warmth of her heart with family and friends. The matriarch of a family that adored her, Giaconda was the cherished wife of the late Antonio, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories. She was a beloved mother to Maria and Mario, a treasured mother-in-law to Michael Ferro Sr. and Gina, and a doting grandmother to Michael, Stephanie, Anthony, and Sabrina. Her legacy further blossomed with her great-grandchildren, Michael Jr., Alexandra, and Adriana, who brought great joy to her later years. She leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces in addition to the above. Though predeceased by her sisters Melina, Angelina, and her brother Nicola, Giaconda's memory is carried forward by her sisters Silvana and Maria, who will forever hold her in their hearts. Her vibrancy, her stories, and her laughter will live eternally in the lives of those she leaves behind. Giaconda's life was a profound reminder that the simplest things— a shared meal, a well-tended garden, a hand-crafted garment— can be the most beautiful. Her loving and spirited nature made the world a brighter place, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we bid farewell to Giaconda , we celebrate the richness she brought to our lives and the unwavering love she bestowed upon us. Her journey continues in the cherished memories that will forever resonate with the whisper of her voice and the echo of her laughter. Rest in peace, dear Giaconda, until we meet again.
