Gabrielle Thomas Obituary

 Gabrielle Thomas

Gabrielle Alyce Thomas, affectionately known as “Gabby,” passed away suddenly on July 20, 2025, in the Bronx, New York, at the age of 62.

Born on Palm Sunday, April 7, 1963, at Mount Vernon Hospital in Mount Vernon, NY, Gabby was the beloved daughter of the late James Wesley Thomas Jr. and Clarice Gwendolyn Williams Thomas.

She was a proud graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Class of 1980, where she developed a deep love for science, social studies, and sports. In the spring of 1979, during her high school years, Gabby completed the foundational biblical studies course “Power for Abundant Living” and became a devoted follower of The Way. She went on to complete the full PFAL series and became an Advanced Class graduate—a true daughter of God with all power.

Gabby began her undergraduate studies at Mount Vernon College and continued her academic journey with great enthusiasm. She completed two years of postgraduate study at Arizona State University and later earned her Master’s Degree in Information Systems Management from Central Michigan University, Brooklyn Campus. She deeply valued education—not only for herself, but for those she taught and mentored.

Gabby’s career reflected her compassion and dedication to service. She worked for several years as a social worker with the Westchester County Department of Social Services before transitioning to a full-time teaching role with the New York City Department of Education, inspiring students at PS 58 and PS 55. She also served as an adjunct professor at Bronx Community College, continuing her lifelong commitment to learning and teaching.

A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Gabby gave generously of her time and talents to serve her community. Through her sorority and personal outreach, she uplifted youth, supported women, and participated in initiatives that fostered educational and social equity.

Gabby lovingly cared for her parents in their later years and remained a devoted sister, cousin, and friend.

She leaves behind her sister, Lisa Ann Thomas, and a host of cousins from the Thomas, Williams, and Tyler branches of the family tree. She will also be dearly missed by her many co-workers, students, and fellow believers whose lives she touched.

Her Celebration of Life service will be held on August 16, at 11:00 a.m., at theYannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home 584 Gramatan Avenue, Mount Vernon, NY.

In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to make a donation to the American Heart Association in her memory.
