Evelyn Spinelli Obituary

Evelyn J. Spinelli, a beacon of joy and a whirlwind of boundless energy, left us on July 6, 2024, at the sprightly age of 98. Born on June 21, 1926, in Mount Vernon, NY, Evelyn was the type of person who could light up a room with her warmth and had an infectious laugh that could cure the grumpiest of souls.

Evelyn, known to all simply by her first name, was a true Mount Vernonite at heart. She passed away peacefully in New Rochelle, NY, having lived a life that was less of a slow burn and more of a firework display. The cause of her departure? Old age – and what a grand old age it was! She was the kind of person who’d say she didn’t "pass away" but rather "graduated with honors from the School of Life."

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Leonard Spinelli, her brother George Stiller Jr., and her parents George Stiller and Mary Fitzpatrick, Evelyn carried the torch of her family's legacy with grace and a touch of mischief. She leaves behind a loving daughter, Allison D'Amico, and her equally cherished son-in-law, John D'Amico Jr., who are both convinced she's currently rearranging the furniture in heaven to make it more "homey."

A high school graduate who never stopped learning, Evelyn's career as a bookkeeper was as storied as her life. From Genung's department store to the family-owned LenCrest Mobil Service Station, she balanced the books with the finesse of a tightrope walker. And, just for kicks, she moonlighted as a gas jockey, where she was known to give out free life advice with every fill-up.

Evelyn's hobbies were as unique and colorful as her personality. She knitted sweaters and hats not just for the fun of it but to wrap the world in a little more love. These creations found their way to grateful babies, children, and adults, either through charity or as the hot ticket items at church craft fairs. And let's not forget the bridal gowns she sewed for Barbie dolls – those dolls were more decked out than the royals!.

When it came to animals, Evelyn was the quintessential Dr. Doolittle. Squirrels in her neighborhood dined like kings on peanut butter sandwiches, personally crafted by the master chef herself. Her garden was a slice of Eden, and her reputation as the go-to Mt. Vernon historian meant she was a treasure trove of stories and advice. Evelyn could solve a home repair issue with the same ease as she could recount the history of the corner store.

As for her social life, Evelyn was the unofficial mayor of her block. Friends, family, and neighbors were drawn to her like moths to a flame, not just for her savvy tips but for her company. She was the life of every party, and even in her absence, her spirit continues to host the most heavenly shindigs.

Loving, selfless, and creative – these words don't just describe Evelyn; they were her superpowers. She wielded love like a shield, selflessness like a sword, and her creativity was the magic that turned the mundane into the magnificent.

Evelyn's legacy isn't just in the memories she leaves behind but in the laughter that still echoes and the smiles she inspired. She showed us all how to live life with a twinkle in our eyes and a readiness to turn every challenge into a punchline.

So, here's to Evelyn J. Spinelli – a woman who never just "went gently" but always added a bit of sparkle and a whole lot of love to every moment. Her curtain call may have come, but the encore will resonate forever in the hearts of those who knew her. And as she'd probably say with a wink, "Don't worry, I've left the light on for you.
