Emiddio Licursi, born on February 9, 1937, in Mongrassano, Italy,
passed away on January 5, 2025. He was the son of Elena and Pietro
Licursi and had three siblings: brothers Domenico and Ricardo, and
sister Adelaide. During his father's military service and time as a
prisoner of war in England, Emiddio supported his mother and siblings
by learning and practicing the masonry trade, a skill his father
excelled in.
Emiddio fell in love with Maria Stella Pucci, and together they
emigrated to the United States, where they settled in Mount Vernon,
New York. He became a proud U.S. citizen and raised two sons, Peter
(wife Giselle) and Paul (wife Maria). Emiddio worked tirelessly to
ensure his children received a quality education and better
opportunities than he had, while fostering in them a deep appreciation
for history and culture.
Known for his warm smile, work ethic, and ability to make others feel
valued, Emiddio was a skilled handyman who always lent a helping hand
to family and friends. He carried the traditions and values of his
Italian heritage throughout his life, from his love of Italian cuisine
to his passion for winemaking, a craft he cherished and passed on to
his family.
Emiddio's heartfelt toasts at family gatherings, including recent
weddings, will be remembered fondly. Though he will be deeply missed
at future family milestones, his legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom
will continue to shape his family's lives.
He was a beloved grandfather to seven grandchildren: Emiddio (wife
Helena), Marielle, Elena (husband Dennis), Paul (wife Keira), Marissa
(fiancé Ryan), Matthew (fiancé Sophia), and Julia.
Emiddio was also a proud great-grandfather to Piero, Elena and Myles.
He treasured all his children’s, grandchildren’s spouses as part of
his extended family.
Emiddio dedicated over 25 years to the Mount Vernon Water Department.
He was an active member of the Church of Saint Ursula, where he served
as president of the Italian organization, managing events such as
Christmas and New Year’s dinners.
In recent years, Emiddio fulfilled a lifelong dream by taking several
grandchildren to Italy, where he shared the places that shaped his and
Maria’s childhood and courtship years.
