Edward J. Sypher, a resident of Eastchester, New York, passed away peacefully on December
20, 2024, at the age of eighty-six. He was born in Manhattan, NY on February 10 th ,1938 to
Josephine and Robert Sypher. Ed was pre-deceased by his six siblings. He attended Ascension
Grammer School and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1955.
In 1956 Ed enlisted in the US Navy and reported to the Naval Training center in Bainbridge,
Maryland. During his time of service, he was aboard the USS Randolph and was part of the
Electronics Operations team and a member of the Naval Boxing team. In January of 1962 he
was Honorably Discharged.
For 50+ years Ed was an active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Holding many local and State level positions in the Order. Ed was an avid Sports fan
representing his native New York roots - The Yankees, Giants and Rangers.
Ed spent 52+ years with the love of his life, Josephine who passed away in 2015. Ed will be
remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and Uncle. He was known for his loyalty,
strong character, love for family and friends, always ready for a gathering, and his big smile.
Throughout his life you could always find Ed at the ball field working with the kids or in the
stands rooting on his children and grandchildren. Always with a smile and a bag of candy to give
out to anyone who would accept it.
Ed is survived by his four children Kathleen Weiss, Maureen Ayotte (Rodney), Robert (Regina)
and Edward Jr. Ed will be sorely missed by his eight grandchildren: Dennis, Jennifer Deiorio
(AJ), Anthony, Liana, Robert, Patrick, Luca and Lorenzo. Ed is also survived by many dear
nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Ed’s life will take place at Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home
located at 584 Gramatan Ave., Mount Vernon, NY 10552, on Friday December 27, 2024, from
4:00-8:00pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 10:30
am at Immaculate Conception and Assumption of Our Lady Church located at 53 Winter Hill
Road, Tuckahoe, NY 10707. Interment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
