It is with great sadness that the family of Edward L. Lombardi announces his peaceful passing at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx on December 2, 2024.
Edward, a lifelong Mount Vernon resident, was born on January 20, 1942 to his adoring parents, Joseph and Louise (Iorio) Lombardi. He was a caring husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
He attended Sts. Peter & Paul Elementary School. From a young age, Edward was well-known for his pitching talent . During his high school years, Edward - together with his brother Larry - brought to Stepinac High School its honorary first baseball championship.
Ed, the self-proclaimed “Mayor of Fleetwood,” loved to shop, cook, eat and entertain family and friends. He loved barbeques, lobster dinners, and holidays with his family. “Big Ed” (so named for his size and his heart) was known for his ever-present humor and quick wit and he loved to make others laugh. His talent and love of baseball brought him to the minor leagues until a shoulder injury ended his career. He became a NYS-licensed insurance broker and real estate broker, owning Ed Lombardi Agency LTD in Fleetwood. Additionally, he became a driving instructor and owned Plates & Licenses Inc.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife, Rosalie (Cavallo), cherished sons Marc J. (Krystle) and Jonathan E. (Janelle), stepchildren Marina C. Vandenbergh and Michael V. Lombardi, Sr., 15 loving grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Edward is also survived by sisters-in-law Marian and Patricia, many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and loyal friends. He was blessed with many devoted friends thoughout the years, including the Valentinos’, who became “familia.”
Edward joins in heaven his devoted parents, his beloved son Christofer and brothers Paul and Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude’s Research Hospital and Calvary Hospital would be appreciated.
Visitation: Wednesday, December 4th, from 3-7pm.
Celebration of life held at Sts. Peter & Paul/St. Ursula Church, on Thursday, Dec. 5th at 10am.
