Carmela Farda

With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Carmela (Sansano) Farda, who left this world to be with the Lord on March 22, 2025, at the age of 92. She passed away surrounded by her loving family.

Carmela was born on April 5, 1932, in the Bronx. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister, whose life was defined by love, faith, and compassion. 

Carmela is survived by her beloved husband Joseph Farda, her four children: Valentino (Marissa) Farda, Nicholas (Diann) Farda, Jody (Tito) Melendez, Anna (Steven) Veteri, her brother, Saverio (Josephine) Sansano, her 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Anna and Nicholas, and her brothers, Sabino and John (Josephine) Sansano. Carmela’s family was truly the light of her life. 

As childhood sweethearts, Carmela and Joseph shared a life full of love, parenthood, travel, music, card games, Hallmark movies, and a deep devotion to the New York Yankees. Together, they created a family and grew their roots in Westchester, NY, carrying on their Italian-American culture and traditions.

Known for her warm heart, strength, and unwavering faith, Carmela was deeply devoted to her Catholic beliefs and community. She dedicated nearly 40 years of her career to The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York at Lavelle School for the Blind. She also served hundreds of candidates at St. Mary's Icthus Retreats in Mount Vernon, which she was very proud of. Carmela loved to cook, visit family in Italy, and listen to Frank Sinatra. Her selfless love, kind spirit, and unwavering support touched all who knew her.

May Carmela rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
