Aline Moyler Obituary

Aline Veronica Moyler, affectionally known as ‘Quilty’, a proud Harlemite and New Yorker since the age of two, was born in Darlington, South Carolina on June 22,1936 to Geneva and James Glover. “I’m a Harlem girl”!  Mom was greatly influenced by Harlem's intellectual and creative genius.  Malcolm X on the corner, novelist James Baldwin reading aloud from his living room window and the Freedom Bookstore. Swooning to jazz greats, Sarah Vaughn, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole wafting through the air on any given day. And of course! James Brown, and others, at the legendary Apollo.  A compilation of overwhelming excellence in the Arts, Culture and Influence. All of New York City is the quilted backdrop of the civic, creative and political mind that is Aline V. Moyler. Aline, Graduated from the prestigious all girls Julia Richman HS in Manhattan, whose motto was ‘Always a Lady’,She was later employed at The New York Times where she met and married ‘the Love of her Life’ Freeman W. Moyler Jr., (Pancho), on December 6,1958.  Their union produced two daughters Stephanie Pearl and Joy Celestine. A devoted wife and mother, Aline was always full of creative spirit, which led her to an advertising career at Cleo Award-winning Benton & Bowles advertising agency. With an adoring interest in textiles, Mom made clothing for her young daughters and learned to weave after purchasing the biggest loom known to man.  This led to more elaborate quilting and multi-media textile artistry, which she practiced until her passing. A self-taught textile artist, Aline has generously volunteered her talents and knowledge with both young and old.  She lovingly shared her talents with the children of Mount Vernons’ Grimes School for several years. Some of Mom’s works appear in several books, two films, numerous gallery exhibits and one quilt proudly hangs in the Smithsonian National Museum. A voracious reader, Mom would devour any novel in dizzying speed.  Always a political activist, one the highlights of her life was wearing multiple hats, hitting the ground running, campaigning for both Barack Obama presidencies in multiple states.  One of her quilts gifted to First Lady Michelle Obama in 2008 weeks prior to victory, was loving displayed in the White House during both Obama terms. Aline, a Gardner, Music Lover and Mentor sponsored many children, churches and charities.  ‘Grandmother/Friend’ to all children she ever met, especially those with creative interests. Oh, and did we say she LOVED to dance! Aline’s passing was preceded by her beloved husband Freeman, Mother Geneva, Father James, Brother James Glover, Sister Inez Davis, Brother In-Law John Moyler, and a host of loving grandparents, relatives and friends too numerous to name, babies to centenarians. She is survived by her daughters Stephanie Moyler-Vasquez, Joy Moyler-Carter,  Identical Twin sister Pauline Bruer, Brother In-Law Champlain Moyler, Sister In-Law Diana Finch-Moyler, Sons In-Laws, Jose Alejandro Vasquez and Nicholas Carter and a host of nieces, nephews and friends of all ages and walks of life (dear Mount Vernon neighbors counted amongst them). Aline departed this realm on Saturday evening, November 30th, 2019 in the loving arms of her daughters and devoted friend, Brittany Allen.  She is laid to rest on what would be her 61st Wedding Anniversary, joined once again with the ‘Love of her Life’ Pancho.

Well Done Queen.
