Roderick Young, known to friends as "Rick”, passed away on March 21, 2019, the first day of Spring, at the age of 71 years.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Rick travelled to Manchester, England at an early age where he met and married his devoted wife of 50 years, Sonia.
The couple moved eventually to New York where Rick established himself as an exceptional carpenter, even working on the construction of the original Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. He worked for many years at Harlem Hospital building many of its facilities throughout the years as well as using his skills to build homes and other constructions throughout the five boroughs.
Rick celebrated life and enjoyed above all spending precious time with his family and friends. Recently retired, he dedicated many hours to his club, the Wembley Athletic Club in the Bronx. He was loved and admired by many.
Rick is preceded by his wonderful parents, Maywin and Chelsea Young, Hyacinth (Sonia’s mom) and his siblings, Barbara (Collin), Paul and Cora. He is survived by his wife, Sonia Young, his brothers, Joseph (Pauline) and Stephen, sisters Judy (Roy) and Margaret, uncle Kenneth (Bunny) Riley, his daughter Yvonne (Chris), sons Ian, Terry (Jill), Marlo (Monaqui) and Shaun, grandchildren Tia, Christopher, Skylar, Morgan, Maywin, Maxwell, Stone and Angel, great grandchild and his many loving cousins, nephews and nieces, other relatives and many dear friends.
