Robert DiLorenzo

Robert (Bob) Di Lorenzo, 93, passed away on Sunday August 26, 2018 in Mt. Vernon, NY.  He slipped away quietly into the hands of God’s eternal life. He was born on March 15, 1925 along with his twin sister Grace, with whom he shared a special bond in Mt. Vernon, NY.  He was the son of the late Antonino and Lucia (Chiappinelli) DiLorenzo.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 siblings and most recently his beloved nephew and godson Paul Tesoro. When his country called during WW II Bob answered the call as had his brothers, and he honorably served in the European theatre with the US Army. Following his return from WW II Bob was hired by the newly forming United Nations.  He was a member of the United Nations Society of Mohicans (one of the first 100 employees of the United Nations).  He retired in 1980 as the Deputy Chief of Stenographic Services.  Bob was a lifelong dedicated parishioner of St. Ursula’s Church, Mt. Vernon, NY.  He faithfully served as a lector, eucharistic minister, homebound minister, and for many years worked bingo for St. Ursula’s Church and Mount St. Michael Academy.  Bob was a Member of the Third Order of St. Francis and Third-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.  For many years, he utilized his skills by serving as a volunteer proofreader for Catholic New City Press (Focolare).  Bob spent his entire life in service to the lord, his family, and community.  He leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and many friends.  His sharp wit and kind smile will be greatly missed. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 to 10:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church at 11am.
