Orlando J. (Ollie) Cappello passed away on September 10, 2018 at age 94. He was born in Trenton, New Jersey on January 29, 1924, to Benedetto and Colomba (Scappaticci) Cappello. He was raised and educated in Mt. Vernon, NY. Orlando is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Eleanor (Patulo) Cappello. He was predeceased by his cherished daughter and son, Felice M. Cappello and William O. Cappello, brother Domenic and sisters Mary Santilia, Frances DiSotto and Antoinette Intili. He was the uncle of many nieces and nephews. Orlando proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in England with the Air Force ground crew for almost three years. He retired after 44 years as a truck driver for North American Philips Corporation. Orlando loved bowling and won many trophies with the Mt. Vernon Church Bowling League. He was well liked by his fellow bowlers and was affectionately nicknamed Ollie Cannoli. He enjoyed vacationing with his family in Montauk, NY and Newport RI by the ocean. Ollie loved animals and his home was open to rescued cats and dogs. He was a life long and avid fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Ollie will be missed by all who knew him and remembered for his beautiful smile and his loving and generous nature. A celebration of Ollie’s life will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 4 to 8pm. A chapel service will be held on Saturday at the funeral home at 11am.
