Donald Thomas Jefferson, born September 2, 1946 in Bellevue Hospital, NYC to the union of Henry Sr. and Lela (Whitaker) Jefferson. Donnie was a twin and one of six children. He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Robert, Henry Jr. and Philip.
Donnie attended P.S. 125, JHS 263 and Alexander Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY. He entered the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict and served as an aircraft mechanic. He was discharged in December 1968 as a staff sergeant. Jeff went to work for New York Telephone Company after his discharge and retired from Verizon after thirty-five years.
Jeff developed a liking for sports, especially basketball. He loved card games, especially Pinochle; often referred to as “Church”; which he played with is longtime friends. He especially appreciated travelling and enjoyed skiing, scuba diving and snorkeling; which he often did with his wife. He was also an avid reader and loved all types of books.
Donnie (Jeff) leaves to cherish his memory and legacy. Linda (Dickerson), his beloved wife for over thirty years. His children, Crystal (Darin), Diana, Chante’, Don Sr., and Shayne. He lived for his grandchildren; Christina, Shuwan, Cody, Ethan, Skye, Kendall, Don Jr., and Ashton. His godchildren, Tanya, Cimmaron, and Jesse Jr. and over fifty nieces and nephews—and favorites, Tasha, Zoe’, Lela and Dawn. His longtime Pinochle brothers, Ronnie, Carl R., Sonny, Allen Jr., and Carl L. (RIP Willie and Red). He was also a therapeutic foster parent for over thirty years.
Jeff even helped those in his passing, by donating his corneas so others can see through his eyes.
