Castula “Tula” Martin, 92 years old, passed away on April 24, 2019. Tula, born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico, was the eldest of 8 children of Zenen and Aurora Ortiz. She was predeceased by her husband, Asterio, in 1979 and survived by five loving sons: Zenen, Manuel, Antonio, Edwin and Robert. Tula came to New York in 1947 and worked as a secretary, licensed hairdresser and retired from Cake Masters as a hostess/barista. There was always cake and pastries at Mama’s house! Favorite memories of her include cooking homemade Puerto Rican delicacies such as coquito and pastels during the holidays. She was a generous woman who always put others before herself. She surrounded herself with family, always. She loved everything in nature from plants to animals – she delighted at looking for deer during many road trips to the Adirondacks. Tula will be remembered for her gentle, humble and kind nature. She leaves nothing behind but wonderful memories. Tula is also survived by seven grandchildren: Gabriel, Brandon, Marco, Marielle, Mia, Remy and Tommy, and two great granddaughters, Roxanne and Rebecca. Family will honor Tula’s life on Friday April 26, 2019 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm at the Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home, 584 Gramatan Ave, Mt.
